Encompassing over 12,500 square miles in forested north central/north west Pennsylvania, the Lumber Heritage Region offers visitors picturesque views of the natural landscape; the charm of small town dining and lodging, and numerous outdoor recreation opportunities including camping, wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, fishing and hunting. A visit to the developing “Elk Range” is a must and the fall foliage is spectacular. Public lands abound with 34 State Parks, 11 State Forests, the Allegheny National Forest, and 450,000 acres of State Game Lands. Major waterways include the Allegheny River, West Branch of the Susquehanna River, Pine Creek and the Clarion River.
Come enjoy the starry skies with fellow astronomers at Cherry Springs State Park, canoe through the “Grand Canyon” of Pennsylvania or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the Susquehanna Wild Area and learn about the history and heritage of our relationship with the forests along the way.
